32nd President of the United States, Democratic

Franklin D. Roosevelt

Term: Mar 4, 1933 – Apr 12, 1945

Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882–1945) was the thirty-second president of the United States, serving from 1933 until his death on April 12, 1945 — the only president elected to four terms. He took office during the Great Depression and enacted the New Deal, a series of programs, public works projects, and financial reforms aimed at relief, recovery, and reform. He led the United States through most of World War II following the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941. In 1942, his administration issued Executive Order 9066, which authorized the forced relocation and incarceration of approximately 120,000 Japanese Americans — the majority of them U.S. citizens — in internment camps for the duration of the war.
