Benjamin Harrison (1833–1901) was the twenty-third president of the United States, serving from 1889 to 1893, and the grandson of President William Henry Harrison. He won the 1888 election against incumbent Grover Cleveland by securing more electoral votes despite losing the popular vote. During his term six new states were admitted to the Union, the Sherman Antitrust Act was enacted, and federal spending reached one billion dollars for the first time — which critics dubbed the "Billion Dollar Congress."
